MSL created this original street event working with a team of local researchers and volunteers for the first Greenwich Fair, part of GDIF 2012. Voices was perambulating street theatre that moved from the historic but lost Fisher’s Alley (now Monument Gardens) through Greenwich Town Centre and Market into St Alfege’s Churchyard and back through Cutty Sark Gardens. Fully costumed characters, based on typical visitors to the 19th century Fair discovered through the project research, engaged with visitors to Greenwich and the audience for the contemporary Fair.
Props and materials researched by the project team and created specially for the Fair provided many of the starting points for lively engagement between the 19th century characters and contemporary festival goers.
Voices was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
